A CLASSICAL TRIO FOR LINER NOTES

Throughout much of November and December 2025 I worked on three contrasting articles for online classical music quarterly ‘Liner Notes’: a Film Department piece about two very different Ravel-related movies (‘L’Enfant et les Sortilèges’ and ‘Un Coeur en Hiver’); a look at the Mozart-inspired silhouette films of German animator Lotte Reiniger; and finally a listening guide to ‘La Damoiselle Élue’ the sublime cantata by Claude Debussy inspired by a poem by Pre-Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti - which gave me a chance to dust off a caricature I did of Debussy which suited the decorative William Morris borders that I prepared for the page designs.
