OPERETTA ON FILM FOR LINER NOTES

During June/July 2026 I worked on a couple of articles for online classical music quarterly ‘Liner Notes’: a Film Department piece on ‘Offenbach’s Secret’ (by Oscar-winning Hungarian director István Szábo), plus a survey of movies about Johann Strauss II - both biopics and film adaptations of his operettas. In the 'Film Department' I also recommended a DVD of ‘La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein’, the amusing stage work by Offenbach, its title sequence featuring some nice ‘Karel Zeman-esque’ animation which inspired me to put together my own humorous collage of engravings in an ornate Prussian style for the page design.
